This BCC has a ‘scar-like’ appearance, which is often seen in the morphoeic/infiltrative BCC types. The absence of any previous injury, and any symptoms such as itching, bleeding or crusting should raise concerns.
Mohs surgery can be very useful in these types of BCC on the cheek, to allow for higher cure rate whilst hopefully preserving skin.
Following Mohs surgery for cheek basal cell carcinomas, most wounds can usually be simply stitched closed (closed directly), although flap closure or skin grafts may be needed for more complex cheek wounds.
